The mold injection technologies of the clock are not simple. As the shape of the alarm clock back cover is a lot sophisticated an d with different kinds of shape of holes. When assure the distance between the holes and shapes, it will bring huge difficulties. The best plastic material of alarm clock back cover is ABS. To some extent, the back cover of alarm clock will decide the centre-of-gravity position of the alarm clock. We should well deal with the balance of the wall thickness of the alarm clock back cover. We should effectively control the mould temperature in order to adjust the contraction ratio.
Thanks to the function of the back cover of the alarm clock, the inner structure of it will bring corresponding difficulties to mould injectiontechnologies. The main reason is that the wall thickness of the screw hole has a bit difference from others and it will cause discontent filling defects of the plastic parts. For this phenomenon, we can adopt double gate. After using Pro/E to imitate CAE mould injection, we will find that the back cover will appear many weld lines. And we also can take advantage of the accurate of the mould to position. But it may cost a lot of money and damage the mould.
In consideration of the complication of the cavity and the core, it will be difficult to adopt overal form to maintain the mould after they have been damaged. We can use inserts to deal with these problems. But we should be cautious to use appropriate quantity of inserts, if too many, it will cause the strength and stiffness of the cavity is not enough.

General criterion
Criterion for choosing mould steel includes three aspects: basic steel performance, process property and metallurgy quality.
Basic steel performance
Usually the basic performance refers to abrasive resistance, toughness and hardness of mould steel, which can comprehensively reflect the performance of mould steel.
When a mould works, the surface of mould frequently have frication with work pieces, which requires that the steel of mould can stand the mechanical wear to ensure that the mould won’t be bruised even in the situation of high speed frication and overloading. Hardness is an important indicator of performance of the mold. High hardness and toughness are required to ensure the original size and shape in manufacturing products. Usually, the quenching hardness of cold mould steel should reach HRC 60 while that of hot mould steel should reach about HRC45-50.
Process property of mould steel
Process property refers to the processability and quenching temperature range, quenching degree and harden-ability. Processability includes the cutting performance, grinding performance, polishing performance, cold extruding performance and cold drawn performance. Thermoplasticity and hot deformation temperature range are also included. Besides, large quenching temperature and small quenching distortion are preferred.
