How to design gas-assisted mould

Gas-assisted plastic products are widely used in the car. Thanks to the need of function, the cross- sectional area of automotic products are big. If we inject as generic approach, the product will shrink seriously. But gas-assisted mould have many good advantages. If we adopt Gas-assisted device during the process of injection, it will prevent the product from shrinking. The process is as follows, inject gas into the cavity, and then make the product hollow. Apart from avoiding shrinkage, it also can decrease cost, lessen weight and increase strength and so on.

The design points of gas-assisted device are as follows:
  • The plastic should be selected with good flowability which will be conveient for flow of the plastic when blowing.

  • The gate should be designed in the end of products.

  • Gas needle blow hole should be chosen near the gate, and the distance should not be far.

  • Blow hole should be under the mould in order to prevent the plastic piled under themould due to the effect of gravity. If so, it may cause the asymmetry of plastic.

  • Gas-assisted mould always require high mould temperature. Generally, we will adopt hot runner system.
